Compañía María Moreno © Susana Girón
Two cousins. One older and the other younger. Both are unexpectedly pregnant. When the two meet, their bodies are pierced by an uncontainable joy. One says: “Ave, María” and the other, enraptured, responds: “Magnificat!”
“MAGNIFICAT” takes place as a journey. María Moreno acts as a guide. Dancing, she takes us through a succession of landscapes that speak of states of the soul and body. But the dance does not come alone, it does not come from nothing: it is necessary to prepare the space, it is necessary to summon the complicit bodies and, above all, it is necessary to firmly grasp the stirrups of time. María uses her power to create with her movement and her dance, the necessary conditions for joy to sprout. She is the master of ceremonies, and the entire dramaturgical course of the work rests on her.
But María is not alone. She is accompanied by a group of artists who help make the miracle happen. They are not a neutral background half-hidden in the depths of the scene. They are not a sonic scenography. They are her accomplices. And with them, she establishes a constant dialogue: an intense back and forth that makes texts, voices, movements, pulses, dialogues, laughter, images, and music continually spring forth. All these elements serve María to build, step by step, a celebration that overflows and that ends up reaching all bodies present in the theater. What becomes a party, a party sponsored by the bodies of the cousins and their enraptured joy.
