Program

Promoted and organized by the Madrid en Vivo association, in this edition we are starting a collaboration with them – as an off-program of Flamenco Madrid – with a parallel program of 21 performances that can be enjoyed in 11 tablaos, theaters, and flamenco-oriented venues belonging to Madrid en Vivo, creators of the FLAMENCO CAPITAL project.

FLAMENCO CAPITAL is an initiative – presented at Fitur 2023 – that seeks to claim the importance of Madrid as a determining territory in the development of flamenco, and flamenco as a capital art of Madrid.

FRIDAY, MAY 23

RINCÓN DEL ARTE NUEVO. A GOLPE DE RUMBA. 12:30 AM. Tickets €10 with drink. Rumba.

Duo formed by Pablo Álvaro (guitar and vocals) and Juan Barroso (percussion, bass, and chorus). They have been sharing stages for more than 20 years, although they have been through different projects and styles together: pop, flamenco, Andalusian rock… In 2015 they formed A Golpe de Rumba, a format between rumba and flamenco with a fun touch, but always with respect for the music and the stage. In the last year, Román de la Almudena has joined this project on percussion, bringing freshness to the project.

This proposal features Lisi Sfair, Belén de la Quintana, and Lucía La Piñona, three women traversed by life in the tablao. Because flamenco goes beyond the stage: it transcends the intimate. Beyond the stage, with the tapping in the background, they mother, love, direct, design, sustain, and propel. The relationship is bidirectional: their lives would not be without the tablao, but the tablao would not be without them. This show reflects that vital force and also reveals the unique style they display in what is already their home: the Centro Cultural Flamenco de Madrid. The performance will feature the guitar of Antonio González and the singing of Eleazar Cerreduela and Diego Amador.

Juan ‘El Mistela’ returns to dance in a unique event with a luxury cast. Three special shows where flamenco art and passion will come together on stage. Flamenco Puro with Juan ‘El Mistela’, Andina Melo Dupak, Pablo Fraile, José ‘El Bocadillo’, and Luana Rubin dancing; Jesús de Rosario and Jesús ‘El Sabas’ on guitar; Batio on cello, Kike Jiménez on percussion; Morenito de Íllora and Elohim singing.

Laura Abadía Motos, one of the most vibrant and unique voices of contemporary flamenco, at Tablao Cardamomo, to take us on a journey full of passion and emotion. Born in the Madrid neighborhood of Tetuán, within a gypsy family with a renowned flamenco tradition, Laura has inherited the purest essence of flamenco, fusing it with her own style. In her throat coexist the most heart-wrenching elements of flamenco with the deepest nerve of soul. Her voice, soloist and unique, belongs to the Afro-Gypsy subgenre, a powerful mixture of flamenco and African-American roots that creates an unparalleled sound experience. With an intense interpretation, loaded with emotion and strength, Laura Abadía Motos offers a show that not only celebrates tradition but also reinvents flamenco with a contemporary energy that leaves no one indifferent.

This show is a tribute to the emblematic Amor de Dios flamenco school, through three of its teachers. More than a training center, Amor de Dios is a space of memory, transmission, and encounter, where generations of artists have forged their art. With this proposal, we seek to vindicate its legacy and its fundamental role in the evolution of flamenco.

TABLAO TORERO. MANUEL BOHÓRQUEZ: Conference “Long live dance, which is at court”. 7:30 PM. Free entrance. Conference, Flamenco.

The journalist and flamenco expert Manuel Bohórquez dedicates a new conference of his cycle “Madrid, the capital of flamenco”. On this occasion, about Madrid as the capital of flamenco dancing. In “Long live dance, which is at court” he will analyze and interview some of the great figures of flamenco dance who have triumphed in Madrid.

The film Carmen comes to the Torero flamenco cinema cycle. With an initial talk and subsequent colloquium with the Spanish cinema expert Carlos Aguilar.

The flamenco and jazz guitarist, Pepe Carmona, and the singer and vocalist, Paco Orellana, meet in duo format to offer their audience a sample of their musical growth after more than 15 years on stage. On the night of June 5, and within the framework of the FLAMENCO CAPITAL 2025 cycle and the first Flamenco Biennial, Café El Despertar will become a flamenco tablao, a concert hall, and a theater at the same time; where the oldest flamenco, jazz, and blues will coexist.
